Mommy wanted to wait until today to tell you about Ick the Tick. She didn't think you all would believe her on April Fool's Day. Long story short....yesterday I was throwing a fit and Mommy spotted something on my head. It looked like dried blood so she took a closer look to figure out what in the world I had done to my ead. Well, when she first got a good look at it she knew immediately that it was a tick! The tick had already embedded itself in my head and was engorged. Mom panicked! She tried to remove the tick with tweezers adn an alcohol swab. Ick the Tick was not moving! Of course, my frantic state probably didn't help much. So Mom did what any first time Mommy would do.....She took me to the ER at the med center.
As soon as we got there, they took me on back and confirmed that Ick was indeed a Tick. The doctor looked at it and decided that he would numb the area around Ick before trying to remove it. So, the nurse put some numbing gel on my head and Mommy had to hold a gauze square on the spot. Well, lo and behold, Ick backed out on his own! Mommy was ecstatic!!! From what we can tell, it was probably a wood tick based on it's size. However, it was hard to tell being that it was engorged. Regardless of the type, we got to it in plenty of time before any disease is passed. The magic number is 36 to 72 hours. We found Ick within 24 hours.
The doctor felt this was a big moment in a little boy's life so he gave me Ick in a clear bag to put in my baby book. You know....first curl....first tooth.....and first tick! The staff at the ER was so unbelievably nice. They made Mommy feel like she made a good choice in bringing me on in. Everyone thought that I was very well behaved and adorable. I was wearing blue so I have to agree that I was looking pretty good! I also got to see the helicopter take off and land. It was so cool!
All and all...it was a great day. We all learned a little about tick and how important it is to always DOUBLEcheck for those little guys!
