We have some fun news. Mommy has applied and is going to be part of a Crohn's research study at the Hershey Medical Center. She stumbled upon this opportunity by chance when she was googling Crohn's research looking for a local walk or marathon. Instead there was a hit for a study that just was released that very day. What are the odds? The study is on Crohn's Disease and Vitamin D. Here is the official link for you to check it out : Click Here Mommy is supposed to get a call next week that will set up the intial visit so she can sign the consent form and make sure she is good to go with the study. The study is being overseen by Dr. Jill Smith who is a doctor at the med center. Mommy met her a couple of times when she was in the hospital and she is an awesome person. Mommy was so excited to hear that she was overseeing the study. Hopefully, we can see some good things come from this study in the future.
Nutrient Deficiency is common for people who have Crohn's Disease, with vitamin D being one of the nutrients lacking or at a decreased level. Crohnies are advised to take vitamin D supplements to prevent bone mass density loss, which is a common complication of the disease. So really, it is a win-win situation for Mommy to be part of this study. We will keep everyone posted as we find out more details.
